Body Mechanics w/HanaKyle Moranz

Join us Sunday November 9 from 1:15-3:45pm for an interactive workshop on how to use your body effectively for less pain and more success while on the wheel. HanaKyle Moranz will guide you in alignment cues and engaging muscles effectively to leverage the strength you already have while throwing, and in associated tasks, including wedging. All levels of experience are welcome.

In this 2.5-hour session, we will:

  • Practice specific stretches and mobility moves to prepare for and/or counteract the physical patterns of wheel-throwing
  • Discuss areas of concern in the body and relevant anatomical details, with plenty of time for Q&A
  • Explore the details of how we use fingers, hands, wrists, neck, back, and shoulders in this work
  • Try out ergonomic variations of common techniques and get feedback in the moment

You’ll learn:

  • How to use leverage to minimize fatigue
  • Stretches to do before, during, and after a session on the wheel
  • How to arrange your body to decrease pain or discomfort
  • Mindfulness to apply to every moment of your clay practice

HanaKyle Moranz is a massage therapist and personal trainer of over 19 years, and returned to the wheel in 2022 after a long hiatus. She’s enthusiastic to share details about anatomy, physiology, and using our bodies in optímal ways for longevity, both on the wheel and in everyday life. Learn more about her at www.hanakyle.com.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Please take time to read through each of these agreements and policies and make sure they align with your values and that you are willing to be accountable to them. We are accountable to each other.

We treat one another with respect and kindness

We ask everyone in the community to extend to others the patience, open-mindedness, and kindness that you, yourself, would want to receive. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.

We support creativity

Our varying forms of expression are a reflection of who we are as individuals. There is nothing new under the sun, and we are all learning together. Therefore, we do not judge one another’s creative expressions, we do not compete with each other, and we support each other's creative processes. We will ceaselessly endeavour to celebrate each other and learn from each other.

We support one another.

We believe in a sharing culture, one that is collaborative and open. We ask our community to commit to supporting each other in a non-competitive atmosphere, sharing information and knowledge.

We are committed to equity

We endeavor to cultivate an atmosphere that is equitable. We will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. This includes, but is not limited to, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and classism.

We value our space and community by caring for them.

There is value in walking into a space that is loved and cared for, clean, and intentional. As we take care of our own well-being, we ask you to care of the space as well.

As much as we value our community, may we express it in the care we exhibit towards it. Everyone that walks into this building deserves kindness and respect. We appreciate all your contributions to making our studio community a special place.

Our staff and teachers are stewards of the community: invaluable resources of knowledge and committed to the culture of the studio. As a staff, we put great effort into creating a nurturing space – in return, we expect our community members to uphold the same values towards us.

By being a member of the community, you agree to the above. Any violation of the Community Agreements may result in reminders, warnings, or, in extreme or repetitive behavior, termination of your access to the community.
