Playing With Underglaze

The Spring 2025 Semester will run from Monday March 31 through Sunday June 22, 2025.

Wednesdays, 10am-12:30pm. Learning how to paint and layer with underglaze can open up a world of opportunities for your ceramics. In this class, Tig Tucker will take you on a deep dive of all things underglazes. The studio will provide some basic Amaco velvet underglazes, chalks, pencils, and spraypaints to practice with. Students will be expected to be comfortable trying new drawing and painting techniques (now's the time to tackle your fears). Students will learn the following techniques: painting and layering with underglazes, watercolor-esque stylizing, stamping, combining washes and glazes with underglazes, underglaze transfers, and color mixing. This class is open to all levels.

For students signing up for this class, start thinking about things you might want to draw, take pictures of textures you like, and maybe start a sketchbook. Come prepared to play.

Class meets once a week for 6 weeks. The cost of the class is $475 plus tax. This class will come with open studio access, a humble amount of shelf space and access to pre-made bisque to practice on.
