Chinese Carving Workshop w/Tiffany Saw
Join us for a special carving workshop with our very own Tiffany Saw! In this class, students will learn traditional Chinese shadow carving, a technique that Tiffany honed during her time in Jingdezhen. Tiffany will show classic motifs, demonstrate the techniques, and share information on her favorite carving tools with the class. She will also have some specialty tools to sell from Jingdezhen!
Tiffany will prepare leather-hard pots for students to practice carving on. Students may fire any finished carved pieces at Gasworks at 4 cents per cubic inch (cone 10 with celadon or clear glaze over top).
Tiffany has been working with clay for a over third of her life. She’s inspired everyday by Gasworks’s community of artists and loves opening a glaze kiln and seeing everyone’s finished pieces for the first time. Her own work is decorated in intricate carvings of flora and fauna—though she’s had to switch from making oversized vases to teapots and tumblers after running out of room in her Brooklyn apartment. Alongside teaching, Tiffany is also the Assistant Manager at Gasworks.

We treat one another with respect and kindness
We ask everyone in the community to extend to others the patience, open-mindedness, and kindness that you, yourself, would want to receive. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.
We support creativity
Our varying forms of expression are a reflection of who we are as individuals. There is nothing new under the sun, and we are all learning together. Therefore, we do not judge one another’s creative expressions, we do not compete with each other, and we support each other's creative processes. We will ceaselessly endeavour to celebrate each other and learn from each other.
We support one another.
We believe in a sharing culture, one that is collaborative and open. We ask our community to commit to supporting each other in a non-competitive atmosphere, sharing information and knowledge.
We are committed to equity.
We endeavor to cultivate an atmosphere that is equitable. We will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. This includes, but is not limited to, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and classism.
We value our space and community by caring for them.
There is value in walking into a space that is loved and cared for, clean, and intentional. As we take care of our own well-being, we ask you to care of the space as well.
As much as we value our community, may we express it in the care we exhibit towards it. Everyone that walks into this building deserves kindness and respect. We appreciate all your contributions to making our studio community a special place.
Our staff and teachers are stewards of the community: invaluable resources of knowledge and committed to the culture of the studio. As a staff, we put great effort into creating a nurturing space – in return, we expect our community members to uphold the same values towards us.
