Learn this centuries old practice of mending pottery with Yuko Gunji.  Kintsugi also known as Kintsukuroi (golden repair) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Kintsugi treats breakage and repair as part of the history and beauty of an object, rather than something to disguise. This Kintsugi course will take place over four Sunday evenings: July 14, 21, 28 and August 4. 7:30-9p. Each class will be a little over 1-1.5 hour long.

Each student will receive special materials which are available only in Japan: gold powder, Japanese lacquer, silk floss and sanding stones. Each student will get to make 2 pieces. If students want to do more kintsugi at home, they can buy a kintsugi kit for $80 after class.
Pieces to kintsugi should be in 2-3 broken pieces, no more.

Note: We will be working with a material that is related to poison oak. If you are allergic to that plant, it is advised that you not sign up for this course.  Working with this material is safe for others provided that proper safety precautions are taken.  We hope you'll join us.
