This is a 12 week glaze course for those that want to take a deep dive into glaze chemistry.  This is the same course taught at Alfred University and Harvard University by Ceramics Materials Workshop.  In this course, students will learn the following:

  • Ceramic materials: their chemistry, origins, properties and functions
  • The tenants of heat and temperature as related to ceramic performance
  • Glaze formulas, analysis and performance
  • Glaze flaws: identification and correction
  • The function of ceramic oxides and color

There will be over 20 hours of lectures as well as 6 hours of live discussions with the instructors to go over tests and labs.  There will also be readings and instructor's notes provided at the end of term.  Students will have 12 weeks to take the class, if they do not complete it in that time, they have the option of extending access via Patreon with CMW.  This class is a collaboration fundraiser for Gasworks NYC.  To help keep our community studio up and running, we will be offering 3 ways to take this class.

Tier 1: Take the class, make and fire your own tests (or don't) at home. $550

Tier 2: Take the class, do your tests and labs at home and we will fire them at our studio: $650.*

Tier 3: Take the class and we will provide you with all of the materials and equipment to do your testing at home and fire your tests for you: $775

*Drop-offs of glaze tests will be discussed once you have registered but you can rest assured they will be contact-less.
